How to load your own Message Notifications?

I'm able to load in my own Ringtones, but what about message notifications?

I notice they are .ogg files

I tried emailing myself an .ogg sound file but Gmail wouldn't download it saying it's an unsupported format.

I did find where they get stored on the phone (/system/media/audio/ringtones if I recall), but I can't copy anything over to there.
