How to make Launcher Pro icons?

(G)

Android Expert
Does anyone know how to make icons for Launcher Pro?

I've customized my dock, but now have two of Launcher Pro's native icons (cool!) and two non-LP icons (not cool!)

I have built a little website to facilitate the request and publishing of LauncherPro Icons at LauncherPro Icons | Custom Android app icons for the awesome LauncherPro home screen replacement

I have built in the ability for anonymous users to request icons for apps, and vote up apps that have already been requested. An artist can accept a request, and upload the icon. Each icon has a QR code to quickly download to the phone.

I want to build an Android app that interfaces with the web site to pull down icons from within the app. Maybe even look through the user's currently installed apps and suggest icons for them.

So far, I have made all the icons on there myself.

Anyway, I'm excited about it, and I hope it is useful!

If you would like to upload your icons there, register for an account (you can also use OpenID), and send me an email from the contact form at Contact | LauncherPro Icons. I will elevate your account.

I also welcome any feedback on the site and its features.

Thanks a lot for your work! Great website.
Would it be possible to include QR codes on the page with an icon? Or are they meant to be displayed only in Most Recent section?

I wouldn't consider myself an artist, but I do know my way around Photoshop and Fireworks. It would be great if the site offered an example icon in PSD format (or Fireworks PNG, or whatever you use for creating the icons) so we can see the layers and layer styles, opacity, and how the drop shadow is set.

That way, when other people create icons, they are consistent in their look.

i was wondering how you add color... could you DL the icon and add it in paint? love some of the icons, but i like color

I'm also interested in this and would be happy to upload any icons I made to that site. Not having to "re-invent the wheel" by getting a PNG or similar file with the layers to imitate would be awesome, even if just a PM.

Thanks in advance and I do like your site. The only issue I have with it is not all the colors and shading are the same as native LP icons so they can be inconsistent (for example look at folder_root vs media_folder). Very similar look but the multimedia icon is a shade lighter. If a standard was set for those who wanted to follow it, life would be better!

Thanks in advance and again, thanks for that site.

I'm currently looking into getting into this. I love LauncherPro, but a lot of the icons never seem to really fit my taste for simplicity and elegance. I'm a Graphic Designer and thought I could give this a try and see how it works out! Thank you for providing this site. You're doing great work here!

dont suppose any one would be kind enough to make a tutorial on how to do the launcher pro style icons in gimp :-D

that would be handy indeed, there is a photo shop tut on your site but misses a few thing out like what image dimensions are used to start with ( and end up at and what not.

also the effect dont quite have thesame outcome when you use the gimp layer tools script-fu.
