How to mute Notifications when speaking on phone

Hi

This is my 1st post so go easy on me

I have an HTC Desire and have my own personalised notification for incoming text messages (The chorus of "A Message to you Rudi" by the specials for those interested)

However if I am using my phone to speak and I get a text whilst on the phone there doesn't seem to be anyway of muting the text notification sound and I can't hear the person I am speaking too for the 5/6 seconds or so until the text notification stops.

On my old Sony Ericsson C905 if this happened a simple pressing the volume down once muted the txt.

I don't think there is a way on the stock HTC messaging app.

However, there is an option in Handcent that allows you disable/enable text notifications while your in a call, with both vibrate and sound options.

I wouldn't think that your phone would play the sound though, just vibrate. That's certainly odd.
