How to play an MKV movie

I'm new to TF so please be patient. I want to know how to play a movie. I converted a DVD to a small mkv file and put it on a flash drive. plugged it into the USB port on the dock, and clicked it. It says there is no application, even though I have MX Player on it. The issues are where do I put this file in the TG file system ,and how do I get it to play.

I take it it's you're using a tablet? If so, which model and I'll move to the section specific to that tablet forum as it sounds like a tablet issue as opposed to an app one.

Is MX Player the media app that came pre installed? You could try another player? I use Rockplayer and find it works pretty well for me.
