Hello and welcome to Android Forums. Hopefully I can help you with your problem.
Try placing the songs in a folder labeled MUSIC on your sd card. Then reboot your phone. The music player should read the folder and songs.
Try a new music player from Play. See if it will read the MUSIC folder.
You may also want to go in and check your music player's settings. You can go into your phone settings, applications, then locate your music player. Do a data wipe for the music player app then reboot.
If it still will not read then I would save all of my files on the sd to a computer. Then use the phone and reformat the sd card. After that, transfer the files back to the sd card.
One of these should solve your problem. If not, create another post stating all the troubleshooting steps you have tried. Also, please state if your device is rooted.
