How to record audio/video from Whatsapp

I've tried DU Recorder and it won't record audio from whatsapp.

I've also downloaded AZ screen recorder and it also has the same warning that "internal audio recording is not allowed by Android now"

It will record audio if I play a youtube video, so it does record internal audio contrary to what the settings say.

However I can't get my audio or the partners voice to record (video works fine).

I have not tried any other programs (skype etc) since Whatsapp is what I use for work and friends.

Perhaps I'm misunderstanding what "internal audio recording" is.

My device is a Pixel 3.

Update:
I can record audio both sides of the conversation, however the person on the other side of the call can only see video (no voice from me).

From what I've heard this is an android(probably apple aswell) thing, basically not allowing two apps to access the mic feature.

Is this correct and is there a work around.
