How to reinstall play store

I've lost playstore off my Desire S and everytime I try to open playstore on the Internet it tells me to use the play store app to go to play store.

How can I download the play store app and install it.

The Play Store app being a system app, unless you've rooted and modified your Desire S, you cannot just delete it. Try looking for 'Play Store' instead of 'Google Play Store' in your App menu.
Formatting a microSD card won't delete the Play Store app on your phone, those are two unrelated things so there's something else going on.
 
I'm struggling with this as I am new to trying to fix this phone. I can't see Play Store in the listed apps and can't find it on apkmirror.com as I don't know which version I'm looking for.

I have tried dowloading it from another site (as well as other apps) and when I tap to install the app I get the message problem parsing page.

Not that I am aware. As far as I can remember, I just erased the SD card. The Desire starts up as normal and has quite a few of the original apps like Gmail, calculator, Internet and connects to the wifi.
About Phone shows:
Android verfsion 2.3.5 HTC Sense 3.0 Software number 2.10.401.8
Kernel version 2.6.35.10-g9ac6c7a

The phone doesn't have a sim card in it as I am using that in my new phone.
 
There is no play store on your app drawer? Also note that sometimes, disabled apps are on the bottom of the list. Did you check the entire list for Play Store /Google Play Store?
 
I've just re-checked the full list of apps and no google play store or play store.

Is is possible to move the google play store app to the sd card?

Is it possible that the version that I was trying to install is incompatible with the android version that I have on the Desire. I've found an earlier version on apkmirror but can't get to the download button. Can I download it to my win xp machine and upload to the sd card and install it from their?

I now have an answre to my problems and have tested it on the Desire and now have Google Play Store installed. I belive the answer is not unique to the HTC Desire but would fit most other android smart phones.

I'm happy to do a short text tutorial if site admin think it would be useful to other members.
