Help How to reinstall?

Hi, Well I bought a very cheap Chinese Android tablet from ebay (yes I know but it's all I could afford).

10.1" screen. Quad core arm processor, 32gb hard-drive (not really it was, as I expected, a 16gb hard-drive with another 16gb welded to the motherboard) 1gb ram. Android Kit-Kat. Unbranded.

Worked fine for 2 months but now is just a cascade of 'unfortunately blah blah.process has stopped, unfortunately google play services has stopped. etc etc.

1st time I did a factory reset and that fixed it for a couple of weeks. 2nd time fixed it for a few days. 5th, 6th and 7th factory resets (all yesterday) made no difference at all. Works immediately after the reset, but when rebooted we're back to the 'unfortunately etc etc.' error.

So. The thing's pretty much bricked (I'm guessing something going wrong with the ram or hard-drive causing essential files to corrupt when they land there.)
So maybe I can use it as my guinea pig to start learning all about the wonderful world of installing android systems?
It is (apparently) rooted. (I didn't do it - it came that way. The antivirus was most upset and told me that it didn't recommend it. There is an App called superuser installed which is apparently involved.)

I have absolutely no idea where to start. I googled it and the websites all said that installing 4.4 is easy, but they all assume that your tablet is currently functioning. As this one isn't I doubt those methods (involving copying apks and running them) will work.

I don't expect this to fix the issue. I'd like to see it as a learning opportunity to practise on something that's messed up anyway. Can someone point me in the right direction to start please?

(Of course if there's a magic cure for the problem that you know, I'll happily try it first.)

Thank you for reading.
