Help How to remove service provider name in notification bar?

I'm using a Motorola RAZR MAXX XT910 on StarHub in Singapore. I can't seem to get the name of the service provider off my notification bar and this clogs up the notification bar whenever I get many notifications. Is there anyway to remove this? I'm new to android and its all a little strange to me. Please help asap. I don't want to root the phone or update to ice cream sandwich just yet.

i dont think you can do that and hey ics is too good..upgrade..and i just got a new update to the ics itself today...

What are the drawbacks of updating?? I've been scared off by comments saying the battery life suffers from it and I'm quite a heavy user of my phone...

Carrier Name on XDA. It works for some and does not for others.
