How to restore Badges to custom rom?

jungleexplorer

Android Enthusiast
I am posting this question here because I can't seem to find a place dedicated to the discussion of custom android roms. If there is a better place for this question the mod will please move it there.

I flashed my i-727 with the SuperNexus rom and it is working great. The one thing I miss from my old rom is the red notification badges that use to appear on the home screen icons when there was new activity on one of my accounts, i.e. Email, Facebook, Calls, Text etc. I was wondering if anyone could tell me how I could get these back in the supernexus rom?

In case you don't know what I am talking about I will post a picture of my former homescreen.

Hi jungleexplorer,

Those "unread count" badges are a function of the launcher. What launcher are you using?

I know a lot of the popular ones on the Play Store have options (or plugins) to enable such functionality. Also, what Android version are you on? That may limit which launchers I can recommend to you. :)

Go Launcher has it as well, but you need the separate Go Launcher notification app.

Well, the Nova Launcher is no good. I tried it for over a week and it was just too unstable. My phone kept crashing over and over again. At first it was just a couple times a day but it got to the point where my phone was crashing a every few minutes. I uninstalled the nova launcher and it has stopped crashing all the time, so I am sure that was the problem. anymore suggestions on how to get my badges back?

My phone still crashes some but only when I try to open a specific folder on my sd card. Not sure why, all that folder has in it is some pictures. Every time I try to open it, my phone shuts off and restarts all by itself. Weird!

Never heard of that with Nova, but OK, Apex Launcher (plus Apex Notifier) can do that too.

Sounds like there's something very screwy with that folder (though I can't imagine how corruption on an sd card could crash the phone itself).

Smart launcher Pro works and has badges, and the ability to hide the notification bar. I always hated the way Android does notifications. Clogging my status bar with a gazillion icons bugs the crap out of me and makes the UI cluttered. The only things which belong in the status bar are vital system info such as battery status, signal bars, clock and wifi/bluetooth status.

I agree about the status bar. Too many notifications just breeds confusion and defeats the purpose. This is why I like badges. Badges allow for compartmentalization of notifications unlike the notification bar that crams them all together.

I will look at smart launcher pro.

You do realize you can pull down the notification bar and swipe away the unneeded notifications right?

I don't mean to say you don't need badges. I use them myself, for different reasons than either of you (I had already bought missedit before Nova existed for use with Widgetlocker as a notif widget on a secure lockscreen. Figured might as well use it for badges). But complaining on something easily solvable just seems weird to me.
