How to retrieve deleted files/folders?

Newbie here...

I have a s3 (verizon) and had Astro File Manager downloaded as one of my apps, which I don't recall what it was for. Anyhow, I opened up the app last night and started clicking different files/folders and noticed that a lot of them where either useless or were empty. So I decided to delete some of them and I noticed that my contacts were copied (tripled/quadrupled) and I had to go through them and delete the duplicates. When I looked at my phone today, the backup assistant downloaded my contacts however, not all of them came in. Any advice? I really don't want to do a factory reset cause I had bad experience in doing it. Phone appears to be working fine and I deleted Astro so that I won't get myself into any more mess. I would like to have all my contacts backed up and, if possible, get those files/folders that I deleted back. THanks for the inputs!!!

I installed the EaseUS Data Recovery Wizard Free Edition on my PC, plugged my phone into USB, and...nothing. The software shows me my C:\ drive and nothing else. Doesn't even know the phone is there.

Deleted a bunch of S Notes by mistake. Anyone know how to get them back?

How on earth could a Windows program recover files on your droid? Especially files that were deleted before the program was installed?

Well to be fair, if the files were on an sd card mounted as usb mass storage that would have worked.

But for files in internal memory, or a card viewed only via mtp (as in current Android versions) it won't. Such software needs to be able to view the device as mass storage (and internal memory won't even be using a Windows filesystem).

what sort of files were they? if its pictures its possible they were uploaded to the cloud, log into picassa web with your google account and find something like "instant uploads" if they were backed up they should be there.
