How to root Nexus 5

first is there a method that doesnt involve unlocking boot loader . if not how do i root and unlock and keep the rom im on which is stock i belive cause i never flashed one and i just recieved 4.4.2. and i wanna keep it and continue getting updates. i dont want no recovery or custom roms

At this current point in time, there doesn't appear to be a way to root without unlocking. However if you're willing to do that, the stickied rooting guide should provide you with a step by step for rooting and changing the rom isn't necessary.

That's one of the more popular ones that people use. Just make sure you do the driver configuration first or else the process won't really be able get going with the real procedure.
