How to secure tablet

AndyRoed

Newbie
I have a 10" android tablet running 4.1. There is no way to set a screen lock password/pattern as there is on most android phones/tablets. I called customer support and they removed that feature, as too many folks were forgetting their password, their kids couldn't remember the pattern, etc. This particular tablet line apparently has no factory reset feature if someone locks themselves out. They have to send it in and they reload the software.

Anyway, I'm wonderin how I can put this feature on here. I looked all over the Play Store and nothing but password managers, antivirus stuff, etc.

You can try Android Lost.

Android Lost is a security app that can be installed on any device with full Google account services (some cheap tablets dont have full google background services) and you can control the device from the android lost website.

Get AndroidLost from the market, install, and grant it administrator privilege. Running android lost will bring up pointers on where to find the proper settings.

You must grant AndroidLost administrator privileges on your phone/device before you continue. Check settings/security/device administrators and check off "personal notes" which is Android Lost's "undercover" name.

Head on over to Android Lost and log in with the google account associated to your device.

Click the "Controls" tab, then "Security"

Under the "Lock Phone" section set a PIN and then click the Lock Phone button.

With any luck your device now has a pin code. If it does not work the tablet maker removed the code that makes it possible. The beauty of AndroidLost is you can remove the pin if you forget and wont have to send it in for repair.

There are various apps over play store that will provide you option to lock your device and put additional security for Free. Give them a try.
