How to Send Text Messages Through Your Computer?

Why? Sending a text message to a mobile phone from your computer is much easier and faster than doing it from the limited keypad and tiny screen of a mobile phone.

Of course if I'm away from the computer, I'll have to use the S5.

I use google voice.

I'm extremely hard of hearing and why I do text and no calls.

Is that a program/app? Link?

hangouts is a google feature using your chrome browser, its like a embedded yahoo messenger-for google. if u have a android phone, most likely u use a google account and email; u have access to hangouts, esp if u are using the chrome browser. hangouts allows you to chat with your contacts and send texts, and do video calls. read more about it here:

Google+ Hangouts

to add hangouts to your chrome browser (i think it may also work on other browsers as well), read, and scroll down the page until you see: "Download Hangouts: Google Play-iTunes App Store-For Your Computer" Click on the "For Your Computer" link in blue and follow the directions.

Quick and easy to send messages to your contacts while on the computer. I do it all the time when I dont have a signal on my phone.

Also Google Voice is a VOIP where you can make calls from your computer and send texts to anyone in the USA for free (800 numbers not included). You dont have to use the voice feature, you can do text only if u want to. I use this alot as well.

Read about it here:

All you have to do is connect your cell number to google voice, and google will give you a special google voice number. After everything is connected, you can start calling and texting. You can also get a browser extension just like the Hangouts app by going to the chrome store and downloading the extension

Oh yea one last thing; if the print is too small on your S5, you can enlarge the text by
going into the Settings, select Display, then Font, and there should be one called Font Size, from there you can enlarge the font size to your liking to make things look bigger.

and you can watch this video, it has lots of tips for putting the S5 in 'easy mode' so you can see things more clearly, and make things easier for you.

Well Android_kitty... you outdid yourself with all that info in both of those posts!
I will read it all again and give it a try.

Actually all I want is to be able to type a message and send it as text mail.
I type near 50wpm on the computer and sooooo slow on the S5.
Thanks!

If you got AirDroid, that can send and read messages from the phone using the PC's web browser.

Actually, Desktop SMS is more like what I'm after... the other stuff looks interesting too. Thanks!

I'll look into what kitty sent me too as I like techie stuff for notebooks and phones...

I would also look into swiftkey for your S5 to speed up your phone texting. Great predictive keyboard, makes typing much easier on the phone.

And I also use Google Voice.

AirDroid Desktop SMS is EXACTLY what I was looking for! However, Tested it this morning sending my wife two texts. They showed up on my S5 that the message was sent and what it said, but never showed up on her phone???

I take it that you don't know what google voice is.

I use it for texting when I don't have access to my phone while I'm at work.
No I don't know what google voice is. If it is anything I have to hear without text or lipreading, voice doesn't work for me as I'm legally deaf with 95% hearing loss. Also the reason I love this S5 and it's programs as it is great for a deaf person. BTW, I DO lipread nearly 100% and have decent speech... definitely a muted tone that most deaf people have though.

I'm going to check out all the great stuff the rest of you posted as I'm kind of a techie type guy and like stuff like that. Looks like that google offers a lot too.

Google Voice is just the name of the service, the only Voice part of it is that it lets you make calls over VOIP for free. The primary use for me is texting via their web page.

Thanks! I will definitely check it out today! :)

My Huawei phone has software on it for PCs to do this while the phone is attached USB.
To find it on mine, I had to plug phone into USB and a new 'cd' drive popped up in My Computer with all the software.
Maybe yours does, too??

I use Mighty text. It links with your phone and Chrome. Great app, especially when you hear the phone ringing in another room and you can see it's a call you don't need to answer!

You use both Verizon & AT&T? Gonna check out that link.

I have friends who are on AT&T and I just want to send them a quick text message, maybe a long copy/paste thing I found on my desktop computer.

Much easier to use the Web Text Message interface.

Sometimes, what I do is copy the text on the web, then paste that into an email to myself.

then I press/hold until the email screen shows "Copy to Clipboard".
Then I go to the phone's SMS function which I use Go Pro SMS and then paste the clipboard to that.

I do not have a dual sim card, I can't afford Verizon's charges, much less add on a line for AT&T.

it was no trouble at all; when i saw your post i thought of my mother. i want to get her a S5 for her birthday this year; and I know i will have to use some of the tips i gave you so i can help her :)

also i found out that sending texts thru gmail chat was possible until recently-they discontinued that feature in favor of hangouts.

here is a great way to send texts via email in these articles:

How to Send Text Messages (SMS) Via Email

basically its 10digitphonenumber@serviceprovider.com/net, you type out a email message with this email in the "To:" bar, and press send. bam instant text message from your email!

each cell company is different and you have to find out what the exact texting email address is for each of your contacts (because they are with different providers)

for virgin mobile for example its 10digitphonenumber@vmobl.com
and for at&t it is 10digitphonenumber@txt.att.net
there are more examples of these in the articles above.

i think this may be the easiest way for you, good luck! :)

android_kitty,

I had forgotten about that method, I have used the Email to Text interface quite a bit in the past.

Just fell out of the habit when Predictive Text showed up on Android phones.

I will still occasionally use it when answering a Craigslist advertisement and don't want the recipient to have my personal phone number. tee hee
You have to know their carrier though, but that is not hard using a desktop computer.

A lot of good info in these threads... thanks to all who posted.
This will help others besides me. :thumb:
I will check them all and see what works best for me.
