(How to) Sending SMS for free in UK?

Hi

Can someone help me with how to send SMS for free in the UK. I have tried a few apps, but most only work in the US/Canada.

I tried webSMS with a sipgate login, but it just sent as a normal text.

Any help please, thanks.

AIUI, in America most phone contracts charge for incoming calls (hence most VOIP calls to mobile phones in the USA are free to the caller, because the recipient pays) whereas in the UK, we are charged a higher rate for calling a mobile phone number and there is no cost to the recipient.
