how to set up ftp??

I noticed alot of android apps have FTP options and it seems like it'd be ez to set up. I would love to b able to send files back and forth from Droid& pc or to internet instead of backing everything up in my Gmail and my 4shared acct is ridiculously a mess.
If anyone can tell me how to do this or know of a good guide or has any suggestions s I'd appreciate it :)
(The 2 file managers i have installed that i would prob use that has FTP option is es file explorer and file expert (I'm trying to figure out which one i like best, it looks like they both pretty much do same it'll prob come down to interface and which is easiest to navigate and get tasks done if i wasn't outta space on my phone I'd prob keep both cuz both r really good but have few differences other than navigation& interface... but now I'm getn off into a different topic!)
 
You have a few options,

Use ftp, - ok if your pc at home is 'always on' but watch out as many isp's monitor the ftp port and will block traffic/the port. (port 21)

Use an app like dropbox, claims to sync files between your phone and pc.

See if your home router supports usb file sharing - (plug a usb external drive or pen drive into the router to make the drive available to your home network, add ddns if you want to access it via the web)

Or use a NAS - a dedicated hard drive, connected to your router, normally via ethernet, to make the drive available to your home network, again, add ddns to make it available to the web.

I guess it depends on how often you want access to the files, how much capacity you need, and if you want to rely on someone elses sever or not.
 
Thanks for replying so fast. I will try your suggestions, i believe u r right about ISP blocking certain traffic
