Hi, I just got my GS3 and I loved it! My only issue right now is how do I only show only contacts with numbers in my contacts? I used to be able to filter it on my Atrix....

Thanks,
Tim

Phone app>contacts>settings button>settings>only contacts with phone.

It is such a headache when I search say "john smith" and it lists 6 "john smith" from different accounts (gmail, facebook) and only one of them has phone number where others are email....

this is not convenient at all

Save your phone contacts to your SIM card, then tell it to display SIM only contacts in the settings. Phil

sounds fine, but how does one go about it...first to transfer then to use?

Hi, first of all try going into the Menu when in contacts, at the bottom of the Menu you will see "Settings" touch this and you will see the option to display "Only contacts with phones", select this and then check your contacts. Phil

This is, of course, a solution.
But since Android phones mostly don't have keys allowing you to scroll fast through lists, and Android have quite a lot of small buttons (even on 4''+ screens), you will time and again find yourself searching the contacts.
And the search feature will search ALL of your contacts, regardless of whether you have chosen "Only contacts with phones".

All in all I guess the 'Contacts' app is just downright unhygienic. It simply litters all sorts of junk information, and doesn't allow you to choose the information you need.

The easy solution would be to separate mail-based and phone-based contacts in separate apps. But until Android concede that they are doing it wrong, I guess we just have to accept that making a phone call is a very time consuming process.

For some ppl its not an issue but others may like to have their contacts numbers and email ids in separate apps.

So latest androids versions 4.x and 5.x don’t have that “contacts with numbers only” option in stock phone app as earlier, so here is a way I helped myself with the problem on my Moto G1.

1.take backup of your phone book with whatever app you are comfortable with and save that file for safe side in your mail.

2.Disable the google contacts sync by going to Android settings app, settings>accounts>google>Accounts Sync gmail id

3.download these two tiny apps from playstore, A)Contacts2vcf B)Delete All Contacts.

The cotacts2vcf app, can read only the contacts with phone numbers, Use that app to write those contacts to a vcf file and save it.
Now your "contacts with phone numbers only" are saved in a vcf file in your phone memory (have a note of the location where it was saved).

Use the Delete all contacts app to delete the contacts which are there in the phone memory.

So by now you left with no contacts in your phone, next thing is to download the backed up contacts by contacts2vcf.

4.Now open the vcf file earlier saved, by this all numbers only contacts will be in your stock phone app.

I hope it helps you.

It's not on your moto because its not a Samsung, not because of 4.x or 5.x.
