How to stop applications from starting?

Hello,

I have a generic guestion. I've got an old ACE with android version 2.3.5 (not normally upgradeable) and I want to kill the drain on my battery. So I stop my applications like Mail, Skype, etc. I also disable WI-FI and I don't have a network plan, just a pay-as-you-go phone card. However after a while those same applications that I stop keep starting after a while. How can I stop them from running? I can't see any "default" option when I check the Application section.

I just came accross this thread advising against, I understand.

However when my WI-FI is switched off my battery lasts 3 days, with WI-FI less than one day. Any explnation of that?

Regards,
Pete

Hi,

I think I managed to reduce the power consumption significantly by switching to "use only 2G networks" and stopping applications from syncing. You can ignore my previous post. Having to charge evey 2 days instead of every 1/2 day seems to be an improvement.
