How to stop txt messages from turning on screen in my pocket!

I can not find a setting anywhere that I can disable text messages from turning on my screen, I am at work getting messages from people and my screen pops on in my pocket, their has got to be a way.. a setting somewhere that I can turn on or off to stop this from happening without disabling notifications completely. I want to know if a message comes in but keep my damn screen off pls! Has anyone figured this out? I tried a few things.. sending messages to myself and turning phone display off really quick to see what happens and sure enough screen just turns back on to show the message I sent to myself... I love the edge but this is going to be really annoying if they forgot to implement this setting in their messaging app, I really don't want to use a 3rd party one just to get around this, seems like a very simple thing.. a setting somewhere to disable this from happening.

Are you using the stock SMS app (Message+)? I use Hangouts for SMS and it does not turn the screen on by default (I don't even think there's a way to allow this).

Im using the stock messaging app that Samsung uses, I don't like hangouts and wanted to just use Samsungs, but I guess it doesn't have an option to disable waking up the screen when someone texts me.

Textra has an option to disable screen when messages come in. The other reason is use it is because it will clear the badge number if I swipe away the message from the notification shade. The stock app forces you to open the actual message to clear the badge.

Did you figure this out? Bc I'd like the oppos. My screen just stays black when I get a message and would like it to light up. Let me know if you know how :)
