how to tirn headset off

I have a Android HTC Inspire 4G
At & t
It's showing I have a headset on and I don't! Can't or make receive calls cuz it won't let me hear nothing! I've tried everything, read the index, every little thing! I am very frustrated with this! Can someone, anyone help,
I really don't want to have to reset it!

Hi

Have you cleaned out the headset socket. Imay be a "mechanical" problem rather than software. Ie the phone thinks there is a headset when really there is some dirt or moisture.
