Help How to transfer data from my N5 to my Galaxy S7?

Smart Switch mobile to mobile is not working-it just sticks at connecting. I'm pretty sure I have granted all necessary permissions. I downloaded smart switch for PC and there doesn't appear to be any way to get my N5 data onto my PC. What else can I try?

eta: My N5 is rooted with stock marshmallow if that matters

SmartSwitch will only work if you're using the official Samsung ROMs. If you're going to root the S7 anyway, just use Titanium backup. Or Helium.

I'm not planning to root the Samsung. Is there a backup app that doesn't require root? I found that even though my last 2 phones were rooted I really don't enjoy flashing roms and stuff. I don't even want to start on it with this phone.

eta: in the smart switch app it gives the option for iOS, windows, etc so I thought it would work with any phone. But I wasn't sure if the root was the issue. Also I have no sim card installed yet (I want to do the transfer when I have more time and won't need my phone for a while) and I didn't know if that was an issue. If finally tried to connect wirelessly but kept saying no signal. It appeared to shut off my home wifi and enable a hotspot or something.

Also, in the past, whenever I've switched to a new phone, somehow my apps would automatically download to the new phone just by me signing in to google. But that isn't happening. It just prompts me to reinstall each app one at a time. This wasn't through titanium backup in the past.

The difference is iOS and Windows are pretty static. Android has too many forks for SmartSwitch to work on all. The PC version does have an option to work on another Android, not sure if the app has it, but if I remember correctly it also came with a warning that it may not work properly.

Thanks. I decided to just download one app at a time. I doubt I'll bother to download a lot of them right away anyway.

As long as you had set up your N5 to backup to Google, and you signed into the S7 using the same account, it should have prompted you about whether you want to restore the apps or not.

That's what I thought, based on past experience, but it didn't. I couldn't find any way to restore from google-only from the samsung cloud. Which does me no good since my last phone wasn't a samsung.
