how do i transfer my media files on my galaxy note 2 to my laptop with the USB mode?

All you should have to do is connect the Note 2 to the computer with a micro USB data cable hooked to the phone into a USB port on the laptop. After the Samsung drivers install, Windows Explorer should open a prompt asking you what you want to do: select "Open Folder to View Files". A window displaying the contents of the Note 2's user memory should open, allowing you to drag & drop files as you like, to the computer or to the Note 2.
