How to use Latitude?

Hi,

My wife and I have Samsung ACE. I would like us to be able view each other on the Latitude application.

I have sent her privilege to view my location (And she approved myself).

Now, I'm doing a test: I have both mobiles in front of myself, connected to a wireless network (I am at the building, so there is no GPS signal at the moment).

I logon to Latitude application in my mobile, I colud see a list of my contacts. I click on my wife icon and then on the map icon.

Now, it presents me and her locations. However, it is updated to 7d ago.

Why isn't it updated on line?

Thanks,
Uriel

Do you mean it shows your respective positions as they were 7 days ago?

Because 'Updated 7 days ago' may refer to the moment you and she approved each other. It may refer to the status update.

I think you have to open maps from time to time. Its not continuously working to look for her AFAIK, since that would use up batter juice quite fast, in general, with GPS actively calculating your location it would use up your battery in less than 6hours even if you just leave the phone on your desk fully charged. On my phone, it seems your latitude location updates every time you open Google Maps and let it calculate your location. Even if Latitude is activated on her phone, it wont track her for you.

With Latitude you actually have to check in. Try Life360, I'm not sure how often it checks in, but it does it often enough for me to keep a general eye on my son. This is especially nice when he's with his Dad for a week!

That/s one way of doing it, but check-in now requires that you have a Google+ account. You can update location on the map simply by touching the compass icon in the upper right corner of the map view.

No, you don't have to manually check in to show your location on Latitude.

OP, have your wife go to Google Maps on her phone, menu, settings, location reporting then location reporting again. What is it set to?

The above menu path is for the latest version of Google Maps, 6.0.0.

Thanks to all: I'll try Life360.

Maybe... but I think they are just trying to build interest in the service. I don't have a Google+ account, but I'm still able to use Latitude.
