Help How to use SMS apps with TextNow Wireless?

This has been stumping me all day, since Google search results for every single combination I tried turned up only basic info about the TextNow app or the service.

What I'm trying to figure out is how to get a third-party app like GO SMS to work with my phone so my theme can be consistent. The TextNow app is functionally fine...it just horribly clashes with my Fallout theme (although it is very lovely on its own, don't get me wrong!).

The issue, for anyone unaware of how TextNow Wireless works, is that my functional phone number and the number in the About Phone section of Settings, the one apps read to get my number, are not the same number. TextNow is the default SMS and calling app, and it works on both Wi-Fi and 2G/3G.

The phone's number is not usable for anything other than customer support purposes, as far as I can tell, but no SMS apps I tried offer an option to change the phone number they use. Textra had it greyed out, and GO just...hangs. I tried activating GO's free messaging feature, but the verification SMS just wouldn't succeed when changed to my functional number...even though I received the texts.

I'm guessing there's not really any way to fix this short of changing carriers, but I don't want to do that, of course! This is my first smartphone ever thanks to TextNow's accessible cost, and I'm willing to put up with a few bummers here and there! If I can get it to work, though, I'd be super duper happy.

If it helps, I'm running unrooted 4.4.4 on a Moto G XT1031. Here's TextNow's FAQ entry about the two numbers. Thanks!

have u ever found a fix or workaround for this? I just signed up with textnow also. bought an lg volt from them. installed a stock rom and I am trying to get the stock sms/messaging app to work instead of having to use the textnow messaging app. exactly what it seems like u were trying to do.
