How would I use NBA League Pass on my Samsung Moment or HTC Hero??

Would I have to root it or something?? Because I know it only works on 1.6 and up . IS there something that could make it work??
 
I can't even find it in the android market on my Droid. I'm guessing it's not compatible with Android 2.0 yet, which makes me wonder why they list it as "1.6 and up"
 
On NBA.com it says:

"Available on G1™ and myTouch™ devices running OS 1.6"

I managed to get the app to my computer as an APK. Im wondering if I will screw up my Sprint Hero if I try to install it.

Can anyone help.
