How would you have the next nexus be?

Bored and was just thinking of stuff...

Motorola the maker
5.7 in screen
3 GB ram
8 core processor
128 GB storage
21 mp camera rear. 5 mp front...
3400 battery
Head phone jack on bottom
Available in black, white and blue (more aqua side).

Sounds good to me :)

I know it's a Nexus, but don't berate me for adding a micro SD slot to your wish list! The camera needs to be 4K capable with ios and it's flash need to be xenon rather than LED. The screen can be 1080p HD for me as long as it is super AMOLED 2K and 4K screens in that size are just gimmicks.

By no means any berating... your vision your option......

I believe IMO.. Smart phone manufactures are shying away from the SD card because they want slimmer devices and need room for battery to supply all that power...

My big petpev with Google /at&t/Motorola is why didn't they build a 128 GB.... At&t doesn't offer 64gb just 32gb ....

Interesting... so you're going for a $900 nexus then?

How I would have the Next Nexus be:

- A new version of the Nexus 4.

Seriously, give my N4 a better camera, updated processor, and full LTE support and I would be quite happy.

My Nexus:

5.5" 2k screen
4GB RAM
Top end CPU
32GB or more onboard
microSD slot, yup.
12MP f/2.0 (or faster) camera with a bigger than normal sensor, cuz that's what counts in camera land.
Battery that runs 2 solid days.

My wishlist—the 2013 Moto X with a much better camera and the latest Android version... but otherwise exactly the same.

Aluminium is not an expensive metal, despite what Apple would like us to believe. :D
It's cheaper than polycarbonate.

Machining it is more expensive than injection molding plastic however.
Ya but isn't s6 all aluminum? My vision would be plastic of course ...
Nope, the S6 has a glass back and supports wireless charging.

You're probably thinking of the HTC M9, that's mostly aluminum, no wireless charging.

Personally - I want bamboo.

Inexpensive, can be processed to look and feel like plastic (without plastic additives), is a renewable resource, biodegradable, and is RF and inductive charging transparent.

We've already got the Nexus 6, so no need for another phablet this year (unless they make 2 models). My personal preferences (which I'm sure we won't get):

Screen: 4.7-5", no larger, 1080p, and I'd actually prefer a good LCD (lot of white in Lollipop, while AMOLED works better with dark).

Battery: 3000 mAh or higher. Can never have too much really.

SoC: I care more what cores are used than how many. If the Snapdragon 820 is available in time and the Kryo core turns out to be any good then that would be the obvious choice. Best have a decent gpu too.

Storage: 64GB minimum (and I would prefer expansion, though you'll never get that from a Nexus).

Camera: I care far more about dynamic range and noise levels than pixel count, so somewhere around 13MP should be fine. Give me separate control over noise reduction and sharpening, and raw output as an option. If you want to shake it up, see whether you can fit a modest optical zoom into the package (may require the right-angled optics some compact cameras use, and rules out extreme thinness).

Front camera: really don't care, but stupidly high resolution here doesn't make sense to me.

Radio reception: rarely mentioned, but has to be a priority. Moto have a reputation for being good, and I can say from experience that recent high-end HTCs are, so if we're choosing manufacturers that's a vote for one of them.

Sound: dual front-facing speakers and a good quality headphone output.

Extras: Qualcomm's talk of a fingerprint scanner that can be embedded under the cover glass is interesting. I'd also like a high IP rating.

Colour: give a few options, but I like dark phones.

Doesn't need to be blade-thin either.

Having lived in the Philippines...YES to bamboo. I miss that stuff...although napping on a bamboo couch sucks.

Wrapping back around to my derringer idea, the mechanism should be built into the device itself. This would be far superior to Apple's fingerprint scanner. Somebody tries to grab your phone from you? With a push of a button, you put a .22 round right through him. He'll go find another phone to steal.

Phone stolen while you're away from it? Via the magic of Android Device Manager, you would be able to look through the camera and wait for the barrel to aim at the perp...then remote fire. That's some street justice. Simply call the police to go and recover your phone afterwards.

And at a more reasonable price, like it used to be.

Nexus 6 is the Nexus I've wanted for years. So I'm good with this phone for awhile. If I do get another Nexus down the road it will have to be a phablet because I can't go smaller. So hopefully they will make two versions....regular size and phablet.

The thing with the less expensive Nexuses, they weren't highly spec'ed in one regard or other. Where would you have them cut back in order to save costs?
Nowhere. But I suppose that would be impossible since there would be complaints about profit loss and who knows what else?

The Nexus brand was known to be developer-friendly in order to be able to keep up with the flagships (spec-wise) while keeping costs down. But nowadays not so much the latter, being another flagship itself. I guess that can be easy to forget.

I think they ought to offer both. One phone that's just all out goodness with the requisite price tag, like the N6, and a value offering for people who don't need the greatest, but want something decent for a lower price. Say a Nexus 5 (2015).
