Help howto MMS-attach file?

When I select "+" to attach a small mp4 audio file to an MMS message using "Messages" app, I can select smileys, camera, gifs, favorites, location or microphone, but I can't find how to select the file of interest to include. Will someone advise, please?

A long-winded workaround: tap the picture icon (blue) to the left of the camera option, then tap the "gallery" box, then the 3 bar hamburger icon top-left, then scroll down the list of apps and sources until you find your file browser. Tap that and you should be able to use it to attach other types of file.

Or just install Chomp SMS, where you tap the +, tap the picture/media icon, and select "audio file".
