Help Htc boot loop/cannot charge

Skoy

Lurker
Hello,

This weekend i have been using my (brand new since recently replaced) One X for tracking a hike, but after several hours when I took the phone out of my pocket it seemed to be stuck in a bootloop. The phone constantly tries to turn itself on, even without first pressing the power button. After 1-2 seconds it fails to boot since seemly not enough power is present. The booting only happens after I plug it in a charger, without the phone just does nothing (I assume because there is not enough power to even consider booting).

I have tried the power on + volume down, and do receive the boot menu, but it says 'not enough power for factory reset'. However, I am not able to charge the battery enough, since the device keeps rebooting (and hence not charging I presume, since the charging light goes on and off all the time). Does anyone know how to get out of this pickle? Much appreciated!

Welcome to the forums! I am sorry to hear about the issue you are having :(

It sounds like there might be an issue with your power button ribbon... can you leave it in the boot menu long enough to charge it?

Well when I manage to enter the boot menu (with power + vol down), it immediately exits after detecting a 'USB' cable present (my charger in the power outlet). I tried charging it for about 2 hours and then tried to enter the boot menu without the charger connected. This time it allowed me to continue and presented some options (recovery, fastboot, ...), but the battery failed before I could select anything. So basically I cannot charge it long enough, and I'm afraid to leave it charging for an extended period of time, since all it does is vibrate, show the HTC screen, and then fall out again (quite heating up the battery).

When the phone is attempting to boot, do the lights on the capacitive buttons flash or anything like that?

No, they do not. I plug in the charger, a second later the red charging light pops up, the phone vibrates, I see the HTC startup logo, and a second later the logo and charging light disappears. After 3-5 seconds this process starts again, and again...

In the mean time I have contacted HTC and they offered again to pick up the phone for repairs. I was hoping there was some magical fix since I'm leaving for holidays tomorrow, but I guess itll have to go the repair way :)

It almost sounded to me like there was something wrong with the power button or ribbon, since I wouldn't expect it to start turning itself on when you turned it on. But, I'm glad it's going in for repairs. Hopefully HTC will say that it's an easy fix!
