HTC build quality??

Im planning on importing HTC's next phone to come to Europe (HTC Ace?) and im a little worried about HTC's build quality on a lot of their phones. The nexus one has this issue where dust gets under the screen, the EVO has a problem with light leaking out the bottom, and i've read about the Incredible feels very plasticy.

I've seen many threads where people complain about HTC's quality assurance too and this makes me a little nervous because if im planning on shipping from abroad, i dont want to have to return it if something goes wrong and be forced to wait weeks to months for a replacement.

What do u think of HTC's build quality on their phones? Is it that much worse than Moto and Apple's?

the dust under teh screen issue was solved long ago from what i can tell, and my N1 was bought in january and never sufferd this issue. it also wasnt an HTC exclucive problem, as other touch screen phones suffered it.

as far as durability goes, ive had my N1 liek i said since like Jan, and the only protection it has is the fabric phone sleeve, i keep it in my pocket, it gets sat on, hit, dropped, stolen by my dog (twice), the sleeve may have some battle scars but the phone remains in mint condition with no defect whatsoever, and belive me i check.

the desire build quality is excellent, clean and tough. (dropped it 4 1/2 ft onto paving slabs and all it got were some minor surface scratches to the metal band around the screen)

no complaints here and ive had my desire around 3-4 months.

I liked the build quality on my G1 (even if it didn't look that pretty) but my Evo leaves a bit to be desired. And who designed the camera placement and style? Gah.

Although a lot of people said the Incredible feels very plasticy and it does look it, but it feels and works like a solid phone for me.

I got a HTC Magic for a year now, still in minth condition, even if I dropped it (twice) in the snow, dropped it from a desk, fell in my car from me turning a bit too quick ( like from my car dash to my car window)... lots! Still, juss scratchy plastic back, but touchscreen is still perfect and I don't even have a screen protector! I also had a HTC Touch before (Windows Mobile 5 ewww) and that one was rock solid too with the materials. I wouldn't stress that much about the quality.

I have an old htc star trek(cingular 3125). Man that phone was a trooper. It still works to this day, though the batter door is now taped on. The battery in that phone lasted forever!

I now have the HTC Aria, so far Im glad I got it/

Sometimes the quality control can be inconsistent. But if you get a working phone, it just keeps going.

Personally, I've always found "build quality" discussions regarding any device fairly pointless for reasons that should be obvious if you read this thread. The answers you get really just depend on the people you ask.
