I just got a HTC Desire PB99400 as a gift that hasn't been used in a long time, now I plug it in to charge and get one amber/orange light blinking. The phone will not turn on if I try while charging. I tried removing the battery and putting it back, holding power and volume down and enter the boot menu. I tried to boot from there but I get nothing. I tried recovery but get a triangle symbol with an exclamation mar within it. I am new to smartphones, someone please help.

Had this problem with an old HTC phone and it was from the battery being very drained. Try keeping it on the charger a very long time and it should recharge eventually. If that doesn't work then you might need a new battery. Hope this helps!

Agreed, a flashing orange light usually means a charging problem. Batteries do slowly discharge even if disconnected, so if it's not been used for a long time it could be very flat indeed (not actually good for batteries). The advice above is exactly the same that I would give.

(I used a Desire until a few months ago, so questions with Desire in the title tend to get my attention ;)).
