HTC Droid Eris -- Stuck On 1.5?

I just purchased Verizon's latest Android offering that was released alongside the Motorola Droid running 2.0 -- Droid Eris. Eris comes equipped with Android 1.5 out of the box.

My question is: Are there any upgrade options from here, either official or unofficial? My phone experience comes from a long love/hate relationship with Windows Mobile, porting and hacking UI's, etc. I know there's 1.6 and 2.0 out and it would appear the new HTC Droid Eris can push it, but how do I do it? My goal was to score Google Navigation which requires Android 2.0.

The Eris is supposed to jump from 1.5 to 2.0 (as is the Hero). I'm not sure if it is official or unofficial though. Also, it will come later than other phones that have stock 2.0, as HTC has to program and layer their Sense UI on top of it (thus requiring more time to prepare)...
 
Im hearing a rumor of December for the update to 2.0 for the eris but of course thats all it is a rumor i have no credible information just thats the word on the street.

Just purchased my Eris yesterday and will pick it up Tues. at store. Sales person(Manager) told me the update will be available on Dec. 11th.
 
excuse me for my ignornance/lack of information. the eris is my first smartphone. with the eris getting upgraded (hopefully) very soon to 2.0, what will be the main differences/improvements? just quicker load times while getting on the net/changing web pages?
 
I really hope Dec. 11 Eris makes the jump to 2.0. Although when I quickly read over the leaked VZW Droid Eris internal document, (It is posted on the frontpage of phandroid.com today 11/24), I did not see any mention of updating to 2.0. (Although I could of easily missed it because I read it quickly!). The document listed reported bugs, errors and problems with the Droid Eris and the action to be taken in order to fix. It also mentioned Dec. 11 and Jan. 2010 as specific~ dates for things to happen. Hopefully 2.0 is coming to Eris on 12/11, it would make a sweet Christmas present! I really want the Google maps navigation!

I'm positive they will release 2.0 onto the Eris and as Eris users we all know it's totally worth the wait to see how they layer it with our wonderfully smooth and sleek Sense UI :D

bump. anyone with a better explanation of the difference of the two?
 
From what I have read in another forum, the dec. 11th update will not have the 2.0. And it will not be 2.0, it looks like they will be jumping straight into 2.1, after the first of the year. The biggest differnce for me is gonna be the turn by turn directions. Google maps is terrible with out it

Lets just hope Google doesn't drag their feet on an update like Microsoft or RIM. I got promises all the time of updates for my old BlackBerry, but never got them. That's why I am a FORMER BlackBerry user, and I'm now hooked on Droid!
 
Everyone seems to be assuming the Dec. 11th update will be the 2.0. I just purchased my phone on 11/27 (only a few days ago) and the Verizon reps at the store specifically said the HTC Vendor Rep told them it would be coming in January.

Don't get me wrong...I'd love for the 2.0 update this month, but I'm not getting my hopes up based on the information I've been told by several Verizon employees reffering to information they received from an HTC Rep.
 
I just purchased the Eris approx 2 weeks ago. When I found out it was running on 1.5 and 2.0 was already available for the Motorola Droid, I called Verizon. The representative, who sounded absolutely clueless about what I was talking about, put me on hold to talk to a supervisor. When he came back, he said that his supervisor informed him that 2.0 would not be available to Verizon customers until after the first of the year. He explained that Verizon wanted to see how well the phone sold before the company would offer any kinds of upgrades.

Take it for whatever it's worth.
 
Please stop spreading bad info. Verizon and HTC confirmed just a few days ago that the droid eris would be getting an OS update in quarter one of 2010. I believe one of the Android websites contacted them and confirmed it would be 2.0 and not 1.6.
 
my fingers are cramping up from all the neat stuff i can doo with my eris. if we get 2.0 or 2.1 my fingers will fall off.
 
The Dec.11th update is supposed to fix issues with battery life as well a long list of other, more minor issues. The 2.1 upgrade is supposedly taking place in the first quarter of 2010. Jan-March i would presume.
