You have to have a data plan on any smart phone.

Thats what i have always been told. But i was just told today if iget a galexy tab thats for verzion i can just use it as a wifi tab is it only like that because i would have togo to the store toget the phone set up so they would nail me with the data package right?

Tablets are not phones, so they don't count as part of the "mandatory data plan" rule. Same as iPads, Xoom, Nook, etc.

Yes. But I don't know if they will activate it with out a data plan. Maybe since your buying it off contract.

Well yeah you're not going to get it activated without a plan...all smartphones require the data plans. But you can use it over wifi without activating it.

Ya, when you try to set it up, it will ask you to select which data plan to choose. It will not let you continue to activate the phone until you choose your plan.
