HTC ERIS- Downgrading from 2.1 unrooted to 1.5

Hi, I have a droid eris, and am thinking about getting the 2.1 leak. Just so I don't have to worry about the warranty, I'm hoping I'll have the backup option of going back to the stock 1.5 ROM. However, the only instructions for reverting back to 1.5 seem to be for rooted phones. I don't have a PC (mac instead), so I'm not sure I could do this even if I could figure it out.

Is there any other way to restore my phone to factory default OS?

Additionally: I have heard that when the legit 2.1 release comes out, I'll be able to update to that whether or not I have the leak. Is this the case?

Sorry I don't understand this stuff better. If there's some intro tutorial, please feel free to direct me there.

If you go to 2.1 you won't be able to root or go back to 1.5. Since the phone is at EOL, think hard about whether you want to ever load other roms on it besides 2.1. If so, root the 1.5 and then go to a 2.1 rom. It's a one way trip.

But it does sound like I'll be able to upgrade to official version once it comes out?

I just got the leaked 2.1 and it works excellent so far... might want to backup your contacts properly if youre going to upgrade. Its graphics are so much better than the stock cupcake crap, plus tethering is awesome!
