HTC Eris Slowed Down! Help please!

I have an HTC Eris and I have noticed lately it has been very slow/laggy in everything I do, especially texting. When I tap a key it puts the texts in 5 seconds later. I really don't want to do a factory reset. Will this make my phone back to the good ol' fast Eris it was?

Are you deleting old texts?

I use System Panel. Mine always flys.

That is, it flys until I have the silent call issue or a random restart.

when I delete old texts it takes forever and then Force Closes.
it doesnt delete them.
