HTC Inspire Screen Freeze

Hello,
I found an old (3 years) HTC Inspire Android Phone of mine recently- No sim card/or sd card.
When I charged the battery and then booted up the phone, the device was stuck on one screen.
The menu buttons on the front screen have no effect.
I tried removing the battery, and rebooting with one finger on the power button while pressing down on the volume button simultaneously.
I have done this numerous times and have followed many different approached such as bootloader, hboot, recovery which have been posted on forums on the web but havent had any luck.
I'm still very stuck and wondering whether this device is doomed and should I give up or look for another approach to the solution.
Any comments and help are appreciated.
