Help HTC Magic Battery/Charging Problems

I have a HTC Magic and the charger part on my phone will not work. I know that it is my phone and not the charger as my husbands Magic does work with the same charger.
Also, the battery does work if it is in his phone but when I can get the charged battery in my phone it drains very fast.?
So my questions are:
1) Is the battery draining fast and the charger not working related issues?
2) Do I need a new battery or can I just get a charging pad to charge the battery? (I dont want to buy a battery charger if the battery is going to need to be replaced anyways?)
3) Or do I need a new phone?
What to do????Any help or insight would be great.

Not sure if they're related but if the charging circuitry isn't working in your device then you'll need to repair/replace the device.

I have exactly the same problem.... How did you manage? I don't know what to do...
