Help HTC ONE HK ANDROID SYSTEM UPDATING??

My husband's phone died last night and when he attempted to power it back on it just came up " ANDROID SYSTEM UPDATING.... STARTING APPS..." It's been stuck on that for about 2.5 hours now. He owns an HTC ONE HK ... He can't do anything with it... Can't hard reset it or anything... And the battery doesn't come out so we are just stuck.... Can anybody please help....

Holding Power and Volume Up forces a reset on new HTC's (I believe), give that a whirl and see if it boots normally after that.
