HTC One or Droid Maxx

I'm on VZW and due for an upgrade, and am considering the HTC One and Droid Maxx. Since the One has been on the market 4-5 months already I'd like to get this forum's opinion whether the One is still a competitive option to the newer phones on the market. Battery life, reception and camera/photo quality are my top 3 concerns.

Many thanks in advance for your feedback.

Droid Maxx will easily outlast the HTC one battery wise. the Camera used by the droid maxx is unfortunately the same as the Moto X uses, which is to say its not all that great (an unfortunate trend with Motorola phones). I used it a bit when i visited the VZW store and it had some odd focusing issues and the colors looked a bit washed out compared to the S4 they had next to it.

judging from what iv seen of my friends HTC one pics look great on the Ones' screen but if you try to put the pics online, or zoom in there is a lot of noise (I'm guessing due to the low 5 MP count).

I would toss the Samsung S4 into the running just because you get an SD card slot, solid battery/camera performance and a removable battery.

Anything by Moto is also gonna have superior reception/call quality. Poor camera is solved easily by just bring a real camera, no fix for poor reception.

I am off contract next month and coming back to Verizon. I was all set on the HTC One, and went into the store and saw the MAXX. I wanted the One for its front speakers, as I stream music at my desk. I think due to the battery im now leaning towards the MAXX. I know this is the Maxx forum, can anyone give me valid reasons to go Maxx over One? I dont care about the $100 thanks!

Battery life and the speaker is just as loud. Also 3 buttons on the front and not 2.
Thanks, I read the speakers are decent........this is a very tough choice for me. Ive owned HTC before, how is Motorolas software to use? Reliable, user friendly??

I find the radio/antenna on Moto phones are what sets them apart. They get by far the best reception and 4G in places that most other phones are stuck on 3G (or not able to make calls). Also, they get knocked for their industrial feel of the phone, but they are tough as nails and you don't need to wrap it in a case to protect it.

The OS is the next closest to a Nexus for being stock.

The other cool features on this compared to other phones is the always on "Okay Google Now" feature. I didn't think I would use it, but I find myself sending texts, starting navigation, starting music, and checking weather.

Also, these are the only phones that have the ability to unlock your phone with a Trusted Device. This means, you can setup a PIN to lock your phone, but if it's connected to a bluetooth headset, smart watch, car, etc, it goes straight in and doesn't need a PIN to unlock.

I also like the larger screen compared to the One in just about the same size phone. I'm sure there are more things that are cool, but that's what I found so far.

This is my first Moto. I've always heard rumors about Moto's radios being epic. The hype is completely justified. The call clarity is the best I've had on VZW going back to my old dumb phone.

The speaker is LOUD and very clear. This is the first phone I've actually had to turn down when listening to a video or something because it was too loud!

The battery life is just beyond belief. Read the thread about battery life in this forum.

User friendly... I guess that's subjective. This is virtually stock Android. The hands free stuff is really cool. I use it all the time.

I'm sure the One is a great phone too. I've owned HTC before (Inc 1) and I loved it. If I had to choose today between the Maxx and the One, I choose the Maxx without hesitation.

Thanks guys, I am leaning Maxx right now, I was all gung ho on the ONE, but the battery may be the deciding factor. Im getting 2, one for wife....hows the form factor for small hands? Thanks again!!!!!!

The Droid Maxx is the only phone I have for business and personal use. The quality is that good.

The first thing a phone needs is good voice in and out. Motorola is the defacto leader in voice communications.

With the Bionic I had to turn GPS off or I would get about 10 hours to a battery charge. With the Maxx I left GPS on and measured just under three days.

The Maxx is THE one to watch.

Size ... handle it and see what you think ... have your wife handle it and see what she thinks.

Last Question....how is the speed VS the Quad core 600 snapdragon? I know the Maxx has the extra cores for specific functions, but its basically a dual core. Thanks again.

Small point, but worth mentioning; having the One for a few weeks now I'm still amazed at its form factor and performance, but was a bit disappointed to note that it gets warm/hot even when sleeping if I'm out on a hot day riding my bike or walking.

I carry it in an open, small clip holster, so that's not a factor; it has to be the metal housing. All settings are tweaked for minimal resource drain.

You know that's something else I like about the Maxx that was a problem on my GNex, heat. The Maxx stays nice and cool, all the time.

In the same position here... looking for a new phone. I have the X right now and am concerned that the Maxx doesn't have a extra memory slot, nor can you remove the battery and slip in a fresh one should you need to.

Can anyone comment on those concerns? Has anyone been inconvenience by the limited memory or fixed battery? Maybe I'm concerned over something that will never be needed in real life.
