Help hTC One V Phonebook is Now Unusable

ozboomer

Lurker
I've been having on-going troubles with the hTC One V phone in that everything always takes a long time to run. I tend not to have the device on-line all the time, so I'm wondering if there's some crazy way the applications are coded to keep trying to connect to some on-line service all the time... and the developer had no idea of a 'network timeout' (!)...

Anyway, the main problem now is that I select the 'Phonebook' and now, the application never shows anything except "Loading". The list of contacts is never shown (well, after letting it sit for 30+ minutes)... and all that happens is that the unit gets hotter and hotter as the poor little CPU is running its little heart out..

I only have a few hundred items in the phonebook so I would have thought it wouldn't be a problem... but as I say, the application is now unusable. The weird thing is that a notification area icon for "OS Monitor" which i have installed shows no CPU activity (yet the unit gets warmer)...

I've posted elsewhere in these forums about CPU speed optionsn for newer phones... but maybe I just need to get *any* newer phone 'coz all the garbage that's going on with the applications in the background is overwhelming the 2+ year old phone now?

Would appreciate any thoughts...

Thanks.

( Sorry for the delay in writing here... I've been ill... )

Contacts are only maintained on the phone and the desktop... or at least, that is the intention.

I just tried starting the "People" app, and it came-up with a list of people straight away (which is unusual - it normally takes ages to do that.. but maybe this particular startup worked better as I'm at home with an active connection to the network)... but as soon as I tapped the "Phonebook" item (pulldown), a "Loading" bubble was displayed... and it just sat there.. and sat there... for probably about 5 minutes before the "sources" were displayed.

The displayed list contains the items: Viber (0), SIM (4), Google (87), Yahoo(0) and Phone (530)... with only SIM and Phone being ticked. As the item Setting > Accounts & Sync > Auto-sync is OFF, I would expect that the "People" app wouldn't even try to connect to the network or try to sync. with something.... ?!?

I tried disabling the wi-fi network... and I started the "People" app again... and the little "3G" in the notification area was displayed... but again, the list of people came up pretty quickly.

I then turned-off all network access (no Wi-Fi, no Mobile network)... and the list of contacts took about twice as long to be displayed...

So I dunno - it seems like there's an issue with the app, with the phone (hardware) and! that the app seems to want to get to a network unconditionally.

The lack of understanding continues...
