HTC one won't turn on

I charged my HTC One with a generic charger until the green light showed but it wouldn't switch on despite being fully charged.
It still gives me no response with no light at all. Does anyone know how to fix this?

Were there any problems before you charged it? I realise you can't answer this unless you post a new thread (or register), but that's obviously something that might be relevant.

Otherwise, all I can think of is to try the hard shutdown trick: press and hold the power button for 15 seconds or so. Do this in a bright environment, since it uses the light sensor to make sure it isn't in your pocket (prevent accidental shutdown). Then see whether it will reboot after that.
