HTC Rhyme in water

I dropped my HTC Rhyme in the water, fished it out immediatly. Does placing it in rice for 24 hours really work, or am I hosed because the battery not being able to come out? I wasn't able to turn it off in time either, so it is still on. The lights work, screen just won't come on
 
The recommended time to leave your phone in rice is 48 hours.

To reboot your device, all you have to do is hold the power down for thirty seconds to a minute. It does the same thing as a battery pull.
