ok so i have been eying the sensation for a while now...and i really want to get it when it comes out. but it has come to my attention that for any android phone to work, i need a data plan. here is what i am confused about:

i have tmo, ok, i can talk and text and those are the only things i need, i dont have a data plan because i am connected via wifi all the time....
so it is really kind of pointless to have a data plan for me. i understand that i wont have gps functionality since google maps is internet based...i have a garmin for GPS anyways and, well, i wont have internet on the go.!
i am willing to pay the full 550$ + to buy the phone.
can i just put in my tmo sim card in the phone and will i be able to talk and text? cuz i read somewhere that in order to activate an android phone you need to create a gmail account (which i already have) through a data plan? is that true? and that the phone wont let you pass the activation screen to the wifi option unless you activate it...through the data plan?

sorry for this insanely long post and i hope you understand my question but please help me. i really want to get the sensation. :(

i want to make a switch from my nokia 5800 already!
