HTC SYNC error code after installation

Hi there,

I have a HCT Wildfire mobile phone and need to upload some pictures onto my windows 7 computer. The problem I systematically encounter however is that each time I run the downloaded HTC SYNC manager - the very latest as well as most other versions, I get the error code message 'can't open file'. I can download and open any other file on my computer, just not this application.

I have spoken to HTC SYNC support and followed their instructions of updating flash, installing MPT, re-install Sync set up (several restarts of pc) in the process and still I get the same error code 'can't open file' after installation of Sync set-up. I have even tried letting the sync set up run without clicking anything and allowing windows explorer to automatically detect application - to no avail.

Other things I have tried are system clean boot and downloading and running various Android Sync software programmes - nothing works to run the set up file. My phone will not install the sync drivers on my computer with or without it being plugged into USB port, and restarting phone device. I always check the debugging on my phone when connected to computer - device detected but can't install drivers.

In addition, I do not run any windows defender and firewall turned off throughout the whole process and no internet protection programmes either. Your responses would be most grateful!.

Hello!
While I may not know the answer offhand, you may be able to use AirDroid in the meantime to transfer files from your device to the computer.
Like I said, it may not answer your question, but until then, that app may help:)
What Android version is the Wildfire up to? Not sure when OTA's stopped for that device?

Gave up on HTC Sync about a week after I got my Desire HD back in 2010. I used (still use) MyPhoneExplorer for what I need (sync contacts/calendar to Outlook on my PC). Client on the PC and app on the phone. I use wifi but you can also use Bluetooth or a USB cable. My wife then got a Wildfire S and it worked fine on that whilst she had it.

Thanks for the answers already.

Did Air Droid and it detected my phone just not able to install drivers after several attempts!. Thanks for the kind supportive solution though - typically it would likely work with other android devices, just not mine, which is a shame.
I have two smart phones - HTC SENSE 2.3.5 Wildfire S and an Orange Barcelona. The Orange Barcelona finds a driver no problem when connected to computer but could only manage to transfer two photographs from it - the camera mode suddenly started to go into video mode and couldn't resolve it.

I have applied the (sync contacts/calendar to Outlook on my PCPhone Explore yet encountered problems uploading pictures - I will give this another shot though. I don't really want to sync my phone, just upload pictures from it and without having to share on social networking sites, unless that is the only way I can access my pictures. I also have Java installed on my computer that is meant to unpack, open and run any exe programmes but just wont touch the setup_3.1.44.5_htc application.
