HTCSync only syncing recurring appointments

Had a quick search, couldn't find any reference to this particular problem (although LOTS of HTCsync problems!).

I have a HTC Desire running 2.2, an Asus XP laptop running Outlook 2010 and the latest version of HTCSync 3.0.5511. I have only just started using this laptop, so it has never had an older version of HTC sync on it. Before syncing I cleared the contacts and calendar events in the phone. I ran a sync, all contacts copied to phone, all recurring appointments copied to phone (birthdays, payroll days, weekly reminders etc), but no normal appointments.... ????

Emailed HTC support. First response:

"Please follow these steps:
1. Please connect your phone to your PC
2. Activate HTC Sync
3. Once HTC Sync is connected to your phone, select People / Calendar
4. On People/Calendar, please select the option

1) If you've never synced your calendar before you need to enter a (dummY) event into from the phone. Android issue os some sort ...

2) I gave up on HTCsync after about 10 minutes. Use MyPhoneExplorer intread (Google will find it). Client on the desktop and app on the phone. It works.

Adding a new appt didn't change anything, so I downloaded and installed MyPhoneExplorer. It took a little while to work out how to configure it (although it was obvious once I found it) but it worked and it worked very well. Thanks Dave!

What an elegant and well written program! This is what HTC sync should be, it is everything I need in a sync program, even allowing sync of text messages (just like my old Nokia 6120 used to do). Up until now I was dispairing that my nice new smartphone was dumber than the old Nokia but this program fixes the only fault I had with the Desire. Well done. If it works as well with Thunderbird I might even be able to ditch Outlook and MSoffice altogether.

Assuming it proves to be reliable I will donate to support this free app. Brilliant first impression. :D

Does anyone know what the limitations of htc syn (with a desire HD) and outlook 2010 are.

Seem to have problems when changing a single event in a repeated appointmnet - this does not sync

The limitations I found were that it was useless. Sorry, not very helpful...

Honestly, I don't believe it's worth persevering with, since I've had my Desire (a few months) I've had nothing but trouble with HTC sync.

However I've been running MyPhoneExplorer for about 3 weeks now, syncing multiple times per day over Wifi, and it is almost flawless. Occasionally it can't find my phone on the first sync, but a second try works fine - must be an issue with the wifi connection. I haven't looked too hard at a solution as it is not really an issue for me.

I was syncing with Outlook 2010, but I had a trial version of Office as this is a new laptop since my old one died. So rather than fork out for Office 2010 (which I hated anyway, stupid and confusing user interface) I'm now using OpenOffice and Thunderbird, and MyPhoneExplorer is syncing perfectly with that too. The lack of a simple way to sync my phone with Thunderbird has previously stopped me dropping MS Office, so I'm pleased to have found a solution that allows me to switch.

You really should give it a try... it is the solution HTC should be distributing with their phones.
