HTT ONE M8 - stuck on Verizon red screen

Dan Kerl

Lurker
This phone worked pretty well until the last update. Battery life became very short (phone would heat), with the phone running down without warning. When this happened last week, the phone would not reboot past the red Verizon logo screen.
  • The bootloader is locked.
  • Recovery options attempted include clearing the cache.
  • A factory reset has not been attempted as we want to preserve the data if at all possible.
  • The local Verizon Wireless store was completely useless at helping us out. (big surprise) They appear to be good at selling phones and nothing else.
Is there a nondestructive way of getting past this?

The system recovery menu has a selection to update from an SD card. Who has an image that would make this possible? If so, is it possible to do this with a locked bootloader?

A perusal of this list suggests that unlocking the bootloader on a Verizon phone in this state is difficult. Is this an incorrect assessment?

Just throwing this out there. Have you tried holding the power button down for ten to fifteen seconds?

Thanks for your reply.

The power button was held for various lengths up to 3 minutes. No change was observed.
If the up volume button was held, with the power button held immediately after, the screen blacked out. Immediately holding the volume down button then pressing the power button entered the boot menu. If we scrolled to the recovery entry, held the power button in and pressed the volume up button, the recovery menu appeared. Clearing the cache from here did not help.

At the least you could reset the the phone if all else fails. Hopefully someone with more experience will chime in.
