Root Huawei Ascend Noob.

My name is Kenny, I am new to the forum, but I have a Huawei Ascend II. From US Cellular. By the way, I pronounced this phone "Howie" until less than a week ago I heard a US Cellular lady say "WAWWAY" How stupid can these things get?

So here's what I am going through, at the moment; I decided to root my phone, but I didn't know much about it. So I google'd for ages and then figured out a way for it to happen. After it was all said and done, I forgot why I wanted it rooted? (I believe the reason had something to do with Pokemon Red.) So, I tried bringing back to stock, but for some reason all I can find for OS is "CricKet" ones, can't find the Us Cellular Gingerbread 2.3.5 or whatever. Huawei Ascend II™ | Huawei Phones | Cell Phones | U.S. Cellular M865 <<< that is what I have.... Please help me.

You're running into the same problem others are running into. As far as we know, there is no back-to-stock recovery out there for the US Cellular version of the phone. However, I did speak with someone else within the last week who also has an A2 through them, and he said he was able to go back to the store and they can flash the stock ROM back onto the phone.

That said, if you simply rooted but did not remove any bloatware, then all you would need to do to "return to stock" would be removing Superuser, busybox, and su, and you would then be back to where you were prior to rooting. If you have removed bloatware or done any other customizing that can't be easily restored, then I would suggest going to a store to see if they can flash it back to stock as the other person was able to do.

Hm, thanks for the reply.
I was curious if there is a way to make an image of the OS from a working phone? My wife has the same phone with the original OS and the other night I was trying to figure out a way I could just make a copy of hers and use it on my.

I have thought about going to U.S Cellular but every time I think about it I always think they are going to use "This was against contract and it violates warranty." Then put a black dot on my head because I was stupid.
I asked if it violated warranty and the guy just laughed and walked away, so that's why I am am kinda thinking it does.

If you have installed CWM, you can make a nandroid backup of the OS. You should technically be able to restore that nandroid backup to another phone of the exact same make and model as long as it has the same version of CWM on it.

I'm one of the morons who flashed the cricket update on a USCC a2. You CANNOT simply flash a nandroid from a working phone.. I tried it. I noticed that the baseband ends in 9 instead of 15 tho. maybe that has something to do with it. I'm thinking that the "update" we did changed the radio or some data setting.

I got a uscc a2 with 2.3.6 on it and right now the only way (I believe) to get rooted to install cwm is to downgrade to 2.3.3 so I manually updated with the cricket 2.3.3 "SD_update" file in a folder named "dload" as suggested somewhere else. It worked and turned it into a cricket phone. I had to manually set MIN and MSID ( ##626* BTW, subsidiary code will be all zeros and the values should be your phone number ) but that only got me voice, no data.

so now I'm stuck unable to find a file like the cricket one from uscc that I can flash to reverse this.

anyone have any other ideas?

When I suggested a nandroid restore, I meant from another of the same phone from the same carrier. Naturally, using an image from a different carrier will break some things, although I suppose I could have made it a little more clear for anyone reading this later.

Other than that, I would still recommend seeing if a USCC store can flash it back to stock. As of yet, I have not come across a USCC stock flash or nandroid backup, unfortunately.
