Help Huawei Model U8180 locked on Android version 2.2.2, kernel 2.6.32.9

I posted this in Manufacturers section but maybe I should have posted it here. I hope someone can help me.

Good evening everyone.

I have a Huawei Model U8180 locked on Android version 2.2.2, kernel 2.6.32.9 and now Whatsapp does not work because it says my Android version is too old.

I still have 6 months left on my phone contract.

It's Mexico network IUSACELL.

Is their a way I can manually upgrade Android so I can continue using whatsapp through to the end of my contract when I can get a new phone?

It's an entry level smartphone so I would only want to bump up to the oldest version that whatsapp will work with.

Hi Toptab, I just Googled Whatsapp site and it stated:

Minimum requirements:

• Android OS 2.1 or above
• Unlimited internet data plan recommended
• Tablet devices are not supported

It should therefore work on your Android phone!!!


Have you tried another Download - your copy may be corrupt. Cheers Neil.

Thanks, its strange because it happened on two phones at the same time.

Anyway, my wife's phone is working now but I'm not sure how her friend fixed it because she's away and my other phone has been upgraded so maybe I'll never find out what happened!

If your Download was from a source other than Google Play, you may need to > Menu > Settings > Applications > Unknown sources. Neil.
