Huawei P8 Lite problem

Hi,

I'm trying to connect my Huawei P8 Lite to my smart TV (Samsung) with screen mirroring. I'm able to do this with wifi-direct only. Ok.

BUT, if I try to reproduce whatever involves plain wifi (like youtube or facebook) the android asks to close the wifi-direct and turn the plain wifi. And, inevitably the connection of the mirroring goes down...

Is there any solution for this problem that someone is aware? I apreciate the help.... Up until now my only solution is tor turn the mobile data - which spends a great amount of MB (and costs money...)

Kind regards,

Kepler

Have you looked into using a mirroring software like plex? Plex is great for mirroring content and is one of the most popular apps around for media servers. I'd check it out if you aren't already using because it will probably help solve your problem.

There's a difference between 'casting' and 'screen mirroring'.

CASTING uses an internet connection - WiFi - to deliver content from your phone to your TV.
SCREEN MIRRORING creates a direct connection between your device - WiDi - and your TV and does NOT use your WiFi.

When you switch from WiDi to WiFi the device will stop the WiDi connection and then establish the WiFi connection.

On the other hand, it is possible to run the WiDi connection with WiFi activated at the same time.

Weird, eh?

(I have a similar HUAWEI phone and have had problems connecting to some TVs.)

Hi Andrew,

Can you please explain me - in simple words - what must I do then? If I turn the WiDi first, youtube asks for wifi and the connection is broken... Do I turn first the WiFi and then the WiDi?...

I'm confused...sorry...

In theory, when you connect your phone to your TV using WiDi, you have two connections going on...

You have a WiDi connection between your phone and the TV.
You have a WiFi connection between the phone and your network/router.

If all goes to plan you should be able to use your WiFi to play YouTube videos, etc and your WiDi connection to 'mirror' those videos to the TV... in theory!

Despite this technology being years old there are still technical problems trying to get this to work and a large part of that is because different companies adopt different standards and names, etc.

For example... my Samsung tablet can mirror to my TV while the tablet is still connected to the WiFi.
It works well... most of the time!

On the other hand, my Huawei phone (which is a lot newer than the tablet) has all kinds of problems trying to do the same thing.

Your phone (P8 Lite) will not be updated to the latest version of Android (Nougat 7.0) unfortunately so it looks like you are stuck with what you have.

In your situation, you should try to (re?)connect to the WiFi AFTER you have established the WiDi connection. (Turn off your data plan in settings!)
