Help Huawei says storage is full but phone can't do the math !?

Hi everybody,

I have some problems with my phone. It keeps saying storage is full, I keep deleting stuff, and it looks like it's making no difference. Looking at the screenshot of what is taking up my storage it looks to me like only +-13 GB of the 16 is used up but the phone keeps saying I only have 280 mb left ? Can somebody please explain why this is happening and how to fix it?

Thanks !

Thanks, didn't know that app and it looks promising . So I didn't have enough space to download it had to kick something off temporarily, chose Spotify. Here's what happened:
- firstly all of my emails started coming in again (wouldn't do that before bc of storage)

- took a screenshot from truth app here's what I dont get : If you add up 'system' + 'data' + 'data/media' it's way more than 16 G?

- took a new screenshot of the settings report of my storage as well as I had deleted one app, to see what it says and what confuses me is all of a sudden there's 1.42 G freed but under 'apps' only 0.07 G actually freed up. That's really weird? The extra 1.42 G seems to have come from nowhere ?

Added the screenshots again. I guess it was lucky guess I chose to delete the Spotify app cuz that seems to have been the culprit but if anybody wants to take a shot at why?! Please me my guest... Thanks for the advise Mikedt!

Possibly Spotify is keeping a large cache of downloaded music that it plays? Like for off-line playing rather than streaming all the time, which maybe categorized as "app data" or "misc" rather than audio. That's what it sounds like, just a guess though as I don't use it myself. Others may know more about Spotify than me.

FWIW this is my Huawei with @scary alien 's Storage Truth.

That would make sense only if I was a premium user for spotify because that allows you to download music for offline playing except I'm a little cheap and only stream music for free online.. also shouldn't it show up on my cache data ? Because I empty my cache data all the time to free up space... Idk at least it worked !

The best option i would take is first make sure you have all applications and data or anything you want to keep backed up to another device (pc, tablet ect). Turn the phone off and load into recovery mode. After thats complete try wiping the cache. If this does not solve the issue then the best bet would be to go back into recovery mode and do a complete data wipe. This will send the phone back to its original state and your storage should be solved after

Hope This Helps

The puzzle here is that Storage Truth is reporting 1.4 GB free in /data, which is the partition that matters here. So why is the system saying < 300 MB free?

I've always found Storage Truth completely reliable, and just checked and it's in perfect agreement with my phone's menu as to how much space is free. You do need to correct for the fact that Storage Truth uses the real (binary) units, while phone menus usually use decimal (which makes the storage look bigger), but that's only a 7% difference, so doesn't begin to account for this discrepancy.

Hmm well that's not so good coming from Huawei. :/

You pay all that money for a phone that can't do simple math?

I wouldn't trust a calculator from them either.

I wonder why it is doing that?

Very odd :/
