Huawei U9000 thinks it has headset connnected

My huawei U9000 thinks a headset is connected and isn't allow me to hear calls unless its on speaker. When I plug in headphones they work. I have tried restarting and removing the battery but it hasn't helped.

This is my question but is there anyone who can help? My phone's been like this for almost 2 weeks. Now on occasion the headset icon goes on and off repeatedly. I can bearly hear my alarms. Please help.
